Returning To The Newspaper Business In 1913, He Became Director, Secretary- Treasurer, And Assistant To The General Manager At The Free Press. Mccurdy Was Business Manager Of The Tribune In 1924 And Was Appointed Vice-President And Managing Director In 1936. In 1942 He Was Named Vice- President Of The Southam Company And Publisher Of The Tribune. He Retired From The Tribune In 1948 After 48 Years In The Advertising And Publishing Business In Wiinnipeg. Foote   Linotypist workers typing at their machines inside the composing room of the Canadian Publishers in the West Canada Publishers building in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  The employees received a salary of $4 per week. The first machine in the photo was used to type set an English paper called the Northwest Review and the Labour News; the second machine was operated by Mr. George-Henre Berube who typeset the paper La Liberte and other French manuals; the third machine was used to print the German newspaper Western Canada; and the fourth machine was used to print a Polish paper. Standing at the right is Brother Charles Sylvestre, Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate, a machinist. Between machines 2 and 3 is the foreman, Maurice Dumousseau, who was later with the Free Press. At the back to the right is Mr. George McNally, A. LaLonde, and Edmon LeMay (second from the right).
